What this country needs is a good five cent cigar thread!

It's Friday. We need some cigar pron. One thing that has befuddled me some is the wide variety out there in size and shape. Personally, I find that I gravitate towards robustos and toros with the occasional belicoso. The big churchills I just don't seem to find as pleasant. And the skinny stuff burns too hot for me. How about yous guys? Discuss. Pic related

Churchill’s Cigar Gets Airbrushed Out of History

Its been said that life often imitates art. However, I never imagined that the satirical airbrushing campaign undertaken by the rabid anti-smoking lobby at the end of “Thank You For Smoking” would ever actually be replicated in real life. Apparently, as the Daily Mail reports, I was wrong (h/t Adam S Baldwin): It seems the man who steered Britain through the most dangerous period of its recent history may have fallen victim to the modern curse of political correctness. Homemade Cigars - Anyone ever try this?

The weekend is here, so we need another cigar thread. On the last cigar thread, someone broached the topic of making their own cigars. The idea is intriguing, but I doubt that I would personally have the patience to properly cure the tobacco. A couple of interesting links I have stumbled upon: 1) http://www.coffinails.com/cigars.html This site looks quite interesting. They seem to have a good cross selection of instructions, other links, tobacco seeds. I had no idea that there was much of a following for home grown tobacco, but apparently there is. I'm skeptical that my climate would provide good...

A Cigar Thread

The long and short of it being that I've recently discovered that I rather enjoy the occasional cigar. As if I didn't already have enough bad habits... Sadly, it seems that I've made the mistake of trying out a selection of some more expensive cigars, and now I realize that I must begin to evaluate the market for more cost effective options. So far I have found that I really enjoy the Padron 3000 and Rocky Patel Decades. But at those prices, they will certainly be a sometimes thing. And so I call upon the denizens of Free Republic! Cigars!...

New Cuban cigar to woo women Carlos Batista Tuesday, 09 March 2010 13:49 HAVANA – Gripped between the teeth of Fidel Castro, Winston Churchill, a Cuban peasant or a Western businessman, the cigar has long been a male preserve. British troops were bogged down in North Africa, the Wehrmacht was at the gates of Leningrad in Russia...

Deadliest lung cancer breakthrough

A new pill that could cure one of the most lethal forms of cancer is being developed by scientists. British researchers have found that a drug destroys tumours in a form of inoperable lung cancer that kills more than nine out of 10 sufferers. The treatment works by blocking the growth of the cancer cells and eventually causing them to self destruct. In more than 50 per cent of the trials, the treatment, which appears to have no side affects, killed all traces of the disease. "We are very excited about it," said Professor Michael Seckl, the molecular oncologist who...
